SHOW DATES: 31 May 2025

WHERE: Ironworks Studios, Studio B 30 Cheapside, Brighton BN1 4GD

DOORS:  1.30pm   SHOW: 2.00pm

This talk will uncover queer stories of the Sussex countryside from the 20th century, from Gluck to Oliver Messel to Katherine Mansfield. Rachel Aldred and Jessica Whyte will draw on research under way for a book compiling 14 stories of artists, writers, craftspeople and other cultural figures who made rural Sussex their home. Each story is linked both to a person and their queer relationships and networks, and to a place that Rachel will visit as part of a two week queer pilgrimage following the Fringe. In the talk Jessica and Rachel will bring to life the often still hidden stories and the intertwined prejudices and privileges that underscored these people’s lives.
